    • This long awaited trip by my brother and I was a dream come true.  I left from San Antonio, he from Austin and met up in Kerrville.  From there, with a delicate throttle hand, made our way westward on I-10 resisting all temptations to "shorten" the road to Ft. Stockton.  After a nice steak dinner we settled on a sleepy road-side motel where we encountered a couple from Sweden who had shipped their Harleys over the Atlantic to Chicago and started a three month journey around the United States.  With sun burned faces they described their 7,000 mile adventure.  A crisp, cool morning greeted us as our journey turned more to the North heading towards Roswell, New Mexico.  The weather forecast for this leg of the journey indicated a good chance of rain as a cold front was moving from the Northwest to the Southeast.  Just as we gassed up in Roswell, the frontal boundary made it's appearance and started blowing sand and dust directly into our path of travel.  Soon afterwards, the temperature dropped significantly and shortly there after ... rain.  Although we could see the possibility of torrential rains off in the distance, we managed to escape with only a few drenching minutes of rain while the rest of the time it was touch and go with sprinkles.
